Transmission
Replacement.

When your transmission is beyond repair, we install one of our own rebuilt units — built in-house, dyno-checked, and backed by a 1-year / 12,000-mile warranty. No mystery junkyard gearbox.

What is transmission replacement at Number One Transmissions?

Number One Transmissions replaces failed transmissions from our Oakland Park shop, serving South Florida since 1983. When a repair or an in-place rebuild isn’t the right call, we remove the failed unit and install a transmission rebuilt in our own shop — torn down, rebuilt with new wear parts, and dyno-checked before it goes in — then road-test it and back it with a 1-year / 12,000-mile warranty. Free diagnosis first. Call (954) 535-9393.

Expert transmission replacement in South Florida

“You need a new transmission” is the most expensive sentence in auto repair — and too often it’s said before anyone has actually diagnosed the problem. Plenty of transmissions that get condemned at a general shop turn out to need a solenoid, a valve body, or a torque converter. So before we talk about replacement, we do a free diagnosis and tell you honestly whether you need one at all.

When replacement is the right answer, the question becomes: replace it with what? A used transmission from a salvage yard is a gamble — unknown miles, unknown history, and usually a short warranty. Ours is different. We swap in a unit rebuilt in our own Oakland Park shop: completely torn down, cleaned, inspected, rebuilt with new clutches, seals and gaskets, upgraded at the known weak points, and dyno-checked before it ever goes in your vehicle.

We keep rebuilt GM and Ford rear-wheel-drive automatics in our rebuilt transmission catalog — from the 4L60E and 6L80 to the 4R70W, 5R110W TorqShift and 10R80 — and we ship them nationwide. For other makes and models, we’ll walk you through the honest options for your specific vehicle, including rebuilding your own unit.

A replacement is only as good as the installation. We flush the cooler and lines so old debris doesn’t contaminate the new unit, inspect the mounts and connections, fill with the correct fluid, and complete the relearn or setup your vehicle needs so it shifts the way it should from day one.

Signs you may need a replacement, not a repair

If your vehicle is showing any of these, bring it in for a free diagnosis before a small problem becomes a big one:

Major Internal Failure

A broken case, shattered gear set, or failed pump can make replacement the most sensible fix.

Heavy Metal Contamination

Lots of metal in the pan means parts have come apart inside. We’ll inspect before recommending anything.

No Movement At All

The engine runs but the vehicle won’t move in any gear. Have it towed in rather than forcing it.

Failed Before, Failing Again

A transmission that keeps coming back after earlier repairs may be cheaper to replace once than to fix repeatedly.

Downtime Matters

For work trucks and daily drivers, swapping in a ready rebuilt unit can get you back on the road sooner.

Overheated & Burnt

Black, burnt-smelling fluid and slipping in several gears usually mean the clutches are finished.

Process

How we handle your transmission replacement

The same honest, four-step process on every job — a solution, not a guess:

Free Diagnosis

We confirm the transmission is truly the problem — and whether a repair or rebuild would do the job instead.

Repair, Rebuild or Replace

We lay out the options side by side in a written estimate and let you choose. No work starts without your approval.

Install a Rebuilt Unit

We install a unit rebuilt and dyno-checked in our own shop, flush the cooler and lines, and refill with the correct fluid.

Road Test & Warranty

We road-test and verify every shift, then back the transmission with a 1-year / 12,000-mile warranty.

Transmission Replacement FAQ

Questions, answered.

How much does a transmission replacement cost?
It depends on your vehicle, the transmission it uses, and whether supporting parts like the torque converter or cooler need attention. We start with a free diagnosis and give you a written estimate for every option — repair, rebuild, or replacement. Call (954) 535-9393.
Should I repair, rebuild, or replace my transmission?
Repair when the failure is isolated, like a solenoid, sensor, or valve body. Rebuild when the internal wear is widespread but the case and hard parts are sound. Replace when there’s major damage or downtime matters most. We’ll explain which fits your situation and why.
Is a rebuilt transmission as good as new?
A properly rebuilt transmission is torn down to the case and rebuilt with new clutches, seals, gaskets and filter, with the known factory weak points corrected. That’s why ours are dyno-checked before installation and carry a 1-year / 12,000-mile warranty.
Why not just use a junkyard transmission?
A used transmission has unknown miles and unknown history, and if it fails you pay for the labor twice. A unit rebuilt in our shop is a known quantity — inspected, rebuilt, tested, and warrantied.
How long does a transmission replacement take?
When we have a rebuilt unit for your application, replacement is often faster than rebuilding your original. We’ll give you a realistic timeline with your estimate and keep you posted along the way.
Can you ship a rebuilt transmission to me?
Yes. We ship rebuilt transmissions nationwide. Browse the rebuilt units and call us to confirm the right unit for your vehicle by VIN.
